If your not familiar with the new cancelled Channel 4 show 'Top Boy', then I'll fill you in real quick.
"Top boy is a fictional UK TV show that ran from 2011 to 2013 focusing on the lives of a group of people involved in drug dealing and street gangs. It starred Ashley Walters and Kano."
Yesterday I came across this Instagram post by Drake.
It made me think about how much a show like this is needed.
"How much this show is needed."
There was talk late last year that Drake would be involved in bringing 'Top Boy' back to our screens by helping funding a new series being made.
One of the good things about Top Boy, was that it did not glamorise the gang and drug culture it actually highlighted the pitfalls in it.
It made the youth see that being a "gangster" isn't about driving that "dope car" or wearing the "sickest garms" -
"Oh no my brother...it's about man getting chucked off balconies and having to live in hiding on your own ends."
Why would this show be cancelled?
It's about educating the youth..."But not whom society deems as the "right" youth to educate."
The show made the people on the outside, get to see what life is really like when you live in an environment where every day is about surviving, when you feel you have no choice.
Your kept in a bubble and you feel there is no way out.
I would love for this show to come back, as long as the storyline is believable and is kept exactly how it started.
"Do not water it down."
You see so many things on TV nowadays, reality TV is taking over but all I see is that everyone else has a story to be told but the youth of today.
Should 'Top Boy' Be Brought Back?
